Judge Russell Mock was born and raised in the State of Ohio. He is a third generation attorney following in the foot steps of his father and grandfather. A member of his family has been continuously practicing law in Ohio since 1928. In June of 2004, he was appointed to the Hamilton County Municipal Court. He represents the 4th District which is comprised of Anderson Township, Cincinnati Wards 1, 2, 4, 5, 6, 8, Columbia Township, Fairfax, Mariemont, Newtown and Norwood.
Judge Mock was elected to full six year terms in 2005 and 2011. In 2011, Judge Mock had the highest overall rating of all candidates according to the Cincinnati Bar Association Judicial Candidate Poll. In 2005, 2008 and 2011 Judge Mock was endorsed by the Fraternal Order of Police, Queen City Lodge 69. He was endorsed by the Cincinnati Fire Fighters Union Local 48 in 2008 and 2011.
In addition to his regular docket, in November 2006, Judge Mock volunteered to preside over the Hamilton County Housing Court. The Housing Court handles all criminal cases filed in Hamilton County and the City of Cincinnati involving building, health, and fire and zoning violations. As part of his work with Housing Court, Judge Mock started a program to help compulsive hoarders in conjunction with Centerpoint Health.
In 2012 and again in 2013, Judge Mock was elected by his colleagues to serve as Presiding/Administrative Judge of the Hamilton County Municipal Court.
He is a member of the Association of Municipal and County Court Judges of Ohio, the Ohio State Bar Association, the Cincinnati Bar Association and the Ohio Judicial Conference where he serves on the Specialized Dockets Committee.
Judge Mock has been a lecturer for the Cincinnati Bar Association, The Lawyers Club of Cincinnati and the First District Court of Appeals 2010 Seminar. He is a volunteer for the Cincinnati Bar Association Mock Trial Competition and the University of Cincinnati, College of Law Career Day. Judge Mock also serves on the Grants Committee for the Cincinnati Bar Foundation.
Before becoming a Judge, he served as an assistant prosecuting attorney for the Hamilton County Prosecutor’s Office. He successfully prosecuted thousands of felonies and misdemeanor cases. Judge Mock also served as a Special Prosecutor in Adams County from 2003-2004. From 1996 until 2004, he was in private practice with Senator Richard Finan. His practice focused on criminal defense, family law, probate and commercial litigation. He is a graduate of the University of Dayton and the Ohio Northern University College of Law. He is licensed to practice law in the State of Ohio and before the United States District Court for the Southern District of Ohio.
Judge Russell Mock and his wife are involved and support many local charities including Council on Child Abuse, Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center, U.C. Potential Program benefiting Elder, Purcell-Marian and St. Xavier High School, Richard Grote Leadership Conference, Lynne Cohen Foundation for Ovarian Cancer, CISE (Catholic Inner-City Schools Educational Fund), Mt Aloysius and LADD (Living Arrangements for the Developmentally Disabled). He resides in Mount Washington with his wife and their two children.
